All dogs four (4) months of age and older must be licensed. If you live within the City of Canandaigua, you may obtain a dog license at the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 2 North Main Street during normal office hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
To obtain a dog license, you must show proof of a current rabies vaccination for the dog. If the dog has been spayed/neutered, you must show proof of this as well.
Fees:
The licenses are issued for a one-year period. Renewals are sent each year directly to the dog owner and payment is mailed to the City Clerk’s Office for renewal processing.

Dog license fees fund the City's pro-rata share of an agreement with the Ontario County Humane Society. The contract is governed by the Agricultural and Market Laws of New York State. The Humane Society services the cities of Canandaigua and Geneva and the towns of Bristol, Canadice, Canandaigua, East Bloomfield, Farmington, Geneva, Gorham, Hopewell, Manchester, Naples, Phelps, Richmond, Seneca, South Bristol, Victor, and West Bloomfield our shelter houses stray, lost or unwanted cats and dogs until they are redeemed by their owners, or placed in a new loving home.
