All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and in good physical condition. Must have High school diploma or State equivalent. Applicants must meet the residency requirements which is living within the City of Canandaigua fire protection district.
You must be able to pass a physical exam and a drug screening. These exams are given at no cost to the applicant. In addition, you will be required to submit to a criminal background check.
Upon acceptance, the new member will spend the first probationary year attending mandatory fire schools or training in order to complete the Firefighter-I course and or the Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO). All training is provided at no cost to the member.
Upon completion of the basic required courses, the member may receive further training in fire related courses such as but not limited to the Federam Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Incident Command System courses or NIMS, Firefighter II, Confined Space and Technical Rescue, HazMat, Rapid Intervention, and CPR or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Fire Service training is extensive and ongoing. In addition to training at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility, members must participate in various drills, incident responses and functions at the Fire Department.
Applicants for becoming active volunteer members of the Erina Hose Company within the Canandaigua Fire Department are to complete the application form sand submit it to the Erina Hose Company or to the City Fire Chief's Office. Applications can also be found at any of the Canandaigua Fire Stations.
