Tree City USA

The City of Canandaigua has been the recipient of the Tree City USA designation since 1988. Established by the National Arbor Day Foundation to recognize U.S. towns and cities which develop comprehensive urban forestry programs.

To receive the Tree City USA designation, a community must meet four standards:

  • Tree City USAA legally constituted tree board or department
  • A community tree ordinance
  • A comprehensive community forestry program supported by a minimum of $1 per capita
  • An Arbor Day proclamation and public tree-planting ceremony

Tree City USA recipients receive a Tree City USA flag, plaque and community signs.
