Community Choice Aggregation
Unusually High Electricity Invoices
Many residents who participate in the Source Power Community Solar program have received unusually high electricity invoices over the past couple of months. As you may know, many residents participating in the Source Power Community Solar Program have high seen unusually high "adjustments" on their January electricity invoices from RG&E. We have been told that Source has included these adjustments because Source neglected to include these charges on earlier invoices.
However, Source Power has confirmed that this adjustment impacted several residents who participate in both Community Solar with Source Power, and electricity supply through the Community Choice Aggregation Program (CCA). Although the adjustments are not related to Canandaigua's CCA, some residents are confused because Source does provide electricity supply for our CCA program.
As a result of the foregoing, be advised of the following developments:
- RG&E has placed a 60-day hold on their January invoices to prevent collection action and/or undue late fees for customers. Impacted customers should have been notified of this hold via an automated calling service.
- The Department of Public Service (DPS) has initiated an investigation into the adjustment charges with support of Source Power and RG&E. Source Power has agreed for the time being to remove the problematic charges allowing RG&E to send customers new bills for January. RG&E, Source Power and DPS are working together to craft an update that will be mailed to affected customers.
We will also continue to monitor and provide updates on the progress of the investigation.
